Delhi/Chennai: AIADMK General Secretary and former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami (EPS) on Saturday wrote to Prime Minister Narendra Modi saying that Sengol (the historic golden scepter) is the pride of Tamil Nadu. In the letter, the former Chief Minister has expressed his gratitude for installing Sengol near the seat of the Speaker of the Lok Sabha in the new Parliament House. At the inauguration ceremony of the new Parliament House on Sunday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will install this sengol near the Lok Sabha speaker’s seat.
Palaniswami said Sengol represents Tamil pride, heritage and cultural heritage. The former Chief Minister also congratulated on the construction of the Parliament in record time.Before the inauguration of the new Parliament House on Sunday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi met the Adhinam Mahants at the Prime Minister’s residence on Saturday and took their blessings. During this meeting, Adhinam also handed over Sengol to Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Let us tell you that in the year 1947, as a symbol of transfer of power, the British handed over this Sengol to the then Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru.
