Delhi : R Venkataramani will be the new Attorney General of the Country
Delhi : R Venkataramani will be the new Attorney General of the country, replacing KK Venugopal Currently, the current Attorney General of India is KK Venugopal, but he has expressed his desire to step down. After which the government has appointed R Venkataramani as the new Attorney General.
The Central Government has appointed senior advocate R Venkataramani as the new Attorney General of India. He has been appointed for three years. Currently, the Attorney General of India is KK Venugopal, but he has expressed his desire to step down. His term ends on 30 September. After which the government has now appointed a new Attorney General.
Before the appointment of R Venkataramani, the government had made this offer to the country’s well-known senior lawyer Mukul Rohatgi, but he refused to become the Attorney General. However, he did not give any specific reason behind it. The current Attorney General of India is KK Venugopal. He formally assumed his office from 30 June 2017 and had a tenure of 3 years. In between, his term was extended again. Mukul Rohatgi has previously held the responsibility of the country’s Attorney General in the Modi government.
The post of Attorney General is considered very important in the Government of India. The Attorney General plays the role of the Chief Legal Advisor to the Government of India and also advises the Central Government on all legal matters. The Attorney General is appointed by the President on the advice of the Government of India.
