New Delhi: The Special Cell of Delhi Police has arrested a key member of an inter-state drug smuggler, who is responsible for illegal smuggling of heroin consignments from Sasaram in Bihar to other parts of the country. The accused has been identified as Mohammad Nadeem Khan, a resident of Seelampur in Jaffrabad, North East Delhi, with a reward of Rs 1 lakh on his head.
Providing more details about the case, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Special Cell) Rajeev Ranjan Singh said, “Last year a team of Northern Range and Special Task Force, Special Cell was informed that under the leadership of Mohammad Rafi alias Babu Khan A smuggler is running an inter-state drug smuggling operation from Bareilly. Two prominent members named Shazad and Amir were also identified. The smuggling kingpin Mohammed Rafi, his associates Shahzad and Amir were later identified and arrested. A huge consignment of heroin, (worth more than Rs 60 crore) has been recovered from Shahzad and Amir. Also, 520 grams of high grade heroin worth more than Rs 2 crore in the international market Was recovered from Babu Khan.”
During further investigation, the main contact of the cartel in Delhi was identified as Nadeem Khan and efforts were made to nab the accused. On January 1, secret information was received that accused Nadeem would come to ISBT Kashmere Gate to supply a large consignment of heroin to the people who came in contact with him. After this a raiding party was formed, which laid a trap and arrested the accused from the spot.
“The accused was produced in the court and has been taken into police custody for further investigation,” the DCP said. The official said that further investigation is on in the matter and efforts are on to identify other suppliers and receivers to trace the entire chain of this drug syndicate. According to police sources, the names of many people are likely to come out after the arrest.
