CWG2022 – Indian Boxer World champion Nikhat Zareen wins gold medal
Birmingham/London/New Delhi: Nikhat Zareen proved that he is currently the best boxer in India. She won the Commonwealth Games 2022 gold medal, almost three months after she lost the weight to win the World Championship title in a new weight category. The challenge before the Telangana boxer was to reduce her weight from 52 to 50 kg at the World Championships, which is a weight category that is part of the Asian Games and Olympic programme.
Nikhat took up the challenge and it was evident from her encounter with Carly McNall of Northern Ireland. They registered a massive 5-0 victory over the opponent in the final. Nikhat needed to plan against his opponent after he clashed with McNall during a training camp with the Northern Ireland national team just before coming to Birmingham for the Commonwealth Games.
